Album Release Show 10/25

at Gypsy Rose Roswell!

Brandon russell jay

Atlanta's Brandon Russell Jay blends a bluesy, southern rock swagger with a soulful, working man’s style. The flavors of Skynrd, Jennings and Petty offer a strong foundation of roots in his songwriting.

After years of sonic exploration in failed bands, the drummer expanded to find his own voice with a guitar and a handful of victories over self-medication and divorce. Armed with faith, identity and purpose, the singer states:

“Isolation is the enemy, and music can unite us, even if for just a moment. Everyone’s got a story, but not everyone has a voice. As a songwriter, I found storytelling to be far more powerful than I imagined. After hundreds of shows on a few different instruments, I found my voice in live performance.”

Whether hosting an intimate, solo experience or a blistering, southern rock four piece show, BRJ and his band of merry men consistently deliver. BRJ has gratefully opened for a variety of acts including: Driveby Truckers, Drivn & Cryin, The Steeldrivers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jason Boland & the Stragglers, Little Texas, Love & Theft, Col. Bruce Hampton, Big & Rich, Eddie Money, Roberta Flack, Vanilla Ice, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, etc.

The upcoming EP The Good Hand serves a southern portion of observant lyricism, overdriven stringwork and thigh-shaking rhythms. Scheduled for 2019 release to vinyl & digital distribution, The Good Hand marks the beginning of a pivotal new chapter for an upcoming southern songwriter.

straight no chaser

by brandon russell jay

I sit in silence by the front door.

I sit in silence

by the front door.

This whiskey is drinking me,

and she wants more than I can pour.

The truth is crashing down.

Slowly I break.

Crazy ain’t got nothing on

the ghosts of yesterday.

I know you ain’t coming home.

Our time has come, and our time has come.

Straight, no chaser. Mind eraser.

Sweet heartbreaker I wont see you later.

Fighting fire with fireflies

on the front porch.

memories of you leaving,

I can’t take anymore.

I don’t know whose sheets you twist.

You ain’t with me.

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger...

It’s what I once believed.

I know you ain’t coming home.

You’re out there burning bridges on your own.

Straight, no chaser. Mind eraser.

Sweet heartbreaker I wont see you later.

Straight, no chaser. Mind eraser.

Sweet, sweet heartbreaker I wont see you later.

In Your Head

by brandon russell jay

There’s smoke everywhere I see.

There’s a fire burning down

every good thing left in me.

So excuse me while I burn.

I know you like to talk,

but honey it ain’t your turn.

Life can be patient, life can be kind.

But life can sure rough you up

from time to time.

So Excuse me while i take this hit.

You see unlike the others,

baby I was built for this.

Ain’t no reason my baby’s gotta act that way.

Your body’s moving whiskey-sexy driving me insane.

I got this little feeling maybe you’ll stay.

I’ll spin you around right now baby,

we can paint the town red.

I’ll spin you around right now mama,

I’m already in your head.

Now I can love you, you can see it in my eyes.

Don’t you know there’s a little truth

in every single lie.

So excuse me while I raise my glass.

Now you can keep your lips tight

or baby you can kiss me back

Ain’t no reason my baby’s gotta act that way.

Your body’s moving whiskey-sexy driving me insane.

I got this little feeling maybe you’ll stay.

I’ll spin you around right now baby,

we can paint the town red.

I’ll spin you around right now mama,

I’m already in your head.

I Got You
